Community Outreach Specialist: (Full-time, 40 hrs/week)

Reports to: President & CEO


Position Summary: The Community Outreach Specialist position’s primary responsibilities are the marketing, grant writing and volunteer recruitment for the agency.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain community partnerships for the purpose of community education, recruiting volunteers and developing financial support

  • Persuasively write about the mission to increase awareness and secure funding

  • Plan and present programs to educate community members on the Big Brothers Big Sisters mission

  • Create (with Development team) all marketing, promotion and social media efforts using community and agency statistics.

  • Create public relations and marketing opportunities

  • Compose and proofread quality copy for all forms of media: print, radio, social media, etc.

  • Maintain records through updating databases, recording community outreach initiatives, events and results

  • Work closely with agency staff to create marketing materials for all events, newsletters, Annual Report, social media and community marketing initiatives

  • Assist, as needed, with Development activities, including donor events and annual fundraisers

  • Participate in internal Development Team and All Staff meetings


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred - Marketing, Communications or English major preferred

  • 1-3 years marketing and public speaking experience preferred

  • Hands-on experience identifying, analyzing, creating marketing and promotional activities

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Persuasive writing skills, grant writing experience a plus

  • Excellent organizational and attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines

  • Strong initiative and creativity

  • Ability to cultivate relationships

  • Material design skills preferred (Indesign, Photoshop)

  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and present a professional and positive demeanor

  • Technology savvy

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Routine office environment with sitting, standing and walking. Work schedules for each employee position are determined based on the needs of clients and the agency goals. All agency staff are expected to schedule evening/weekend hours, on an as-needed basis. Must travel to local communities and neighborhoods.

Development Specialist (Full-time, 40 hrs/week)

 


Reports to:

Operations Director


Position Summary:

Provide direct-line fundraising and marketing support on the Development Team:

  • Support the work of the Development Team with Board committees and donors

  • Data entry into CRM database

  • Assist with fundraising and cultivation efforts

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for agency events & meetings:

    • Assist in creating and tracking event costs and budget

    • Assist in creation, production and delivering invitations for events and tracking responses

    • Assist in coordinating event logistics, including IT needs

    • Preparation & set-up of materials

    • Recruit, manage and coordinate volunteers for special events, as needed

    • Staff events, as requested by leadership

  • Provide infrastructure support for agency donations

    • Data Entry

    • Invoicing & Thank You’s

    • Follow-up on accounts receivables

    • Other support, as needed

  • Assist Development Team in planning and implementing cultivation, engagement and stewardship events


Qualifications:

  • High School graduate, some college a plus

  • 6 months - 2 years experience in data management or transferable skills with a proven track record of success

  • Basic understanding of financial terms and practices preferred (deposits, credit cards, accounts payable, etc.)

  • Personable with polished and friendly business etiquette used in oral and written communication

  • Internet savvy and possess strong clerical skills

  • Computer proficiency:

    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google preferred

    • Salesforce [or other data management system], web design experience a plus

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, prioritize, multi-task, and be coachable

  • Reliability and accountability for assigned tasks

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work with confidential information

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to focus on details and work independently

  • Creative and able to take initiative on developing ideas and projects

  • Excellent communication skills, emphasizing the ability to listen and hear others

  • Non-profit fundraising and event experience a plus
