COMMUNITY OUTREACH SPECIALIST: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids & East Central Iowa seeks an experienced community outreach individual to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a mission-driven communications and marketing professional to apply your experience and increase awareness and support to help make a difference in the lives of children facing adversity.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and maintain community partnerships with businesses, churches, organizations and groups for the purpose of community education, recruiting volunteers and developing financial support:
Secure a diverse network of individual and corporate donors
Secure a diverse network of volunteer mentors
Secure a diverse network of opportunities to market/advocate agency’s mission
Research funding opportunities for:
Unrestricted operating revenue
Restricted projects
Capital projects, as needed
Coordinate, write and submit grant proposals
Lead execution and practical application of the agency’s established brand strategy
Plan and present programs to educate community members and build resource partnerships and marketing opportunities
Create (while working with Development Director) all marketing, promotion and social media efforts using community and agency statistics.
Create public relations and marketing opportunities
Compose and proofread quality copy for all forms of media: print, radio, social media, etc.
Maintain detailed and accurate records through updating databases, recording community outreach initiatives, events and results
Communicate with Development Director community outreach projects, status and partner cultivation
Work closely with agency staff to create marketing materials for all events, newsletters, Annual Report, social media and community marketing initiatives, seeing projects through to completion.
Assist, as needed, with Development activities, including donor events and annual fundraisers
Participate in internal Development Team and All Staff meetings

Position Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree - English, Communications or Marketing preferred
1-3 years marketing and public speaking experience
1-3 years of writing experience, with grant writing experience preferred
Hands-on experience identifying, analyzing, creating marketing and promotional activities
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and attention to detail
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
Strong initiative and creativity
Ability to cultivate relationships
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and working with graphics for design/layout
Proficiency in a formal database application
Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and present a professional and positive demeanor to staff, funders, board members and the general public

This is an excellent opportunity for a mission-driven communications professional to apply your writing and research skills to help make a difference in the lives of children facing adversity.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
• Research funding opportunities for:
- Unrestricted operating revenue
- Restricted projects
- Capital projects, as needed
• Coordinate, write and submit grant proposals
• Analyze results, compile statistics and produce accurate and timely interim and final reports, as required
• Maintain detailed and accurate records through updating databases, recording grant information and fulfillment
• Develop and maintain relationships with funders
• Communicate with Development Director on grants and project status and donor cultivation
• Manage correspondence with grantors
• Perform grant administration in a timely manner
• Assist, as needed, with Development activities, including donor events, annual fundraisers and community outreach
• Participate in internal Development Team and All Staff meetings

Position Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree - Nonprofit Management, English or Communications preferred
• 1-3 years grant writing experience
• Excellent persuasive and analytical writing skills
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent grammar, punctuation and spelling skills
• Excellent organizational and concentration skills and attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Strong initiative and creativity
• Strong ability in research and analysis
• Ability to work independently and meet multiple deadlines
• Ability to cultivate relationships
• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
• Proficiency in a formal database application
• Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and present a professional and positive demeanor to staff, funders, board members and the general public
• Ability to maintain positive work attitude under stressful situations
• Ability to represent the agency and respond professionally in all situations
