CEDAR RAPIDS, Ia., March 6, 2012 – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids and East Central Iowa announces results from Bowl For Kids’ Sake, their largest annual fundraising event, which took place January 19th – February 16th, 2012 at Cedar Rapids Bowling Center. A total of $355,034 was raised by over 2,500 bowlers! This year’s results are an all-time record for the agency, exceeding stretch goals and the last record of $350,271 set in 2008, prior to the flood. “The outpouring of financial and volunteer support from our community is positively overwhelming. We are very grateful to be surrounded by so many who recognize the needs of our youth and do all they can to make our community stronger through youth mentoring,” stated Big Brothers Big Sisters Development Director. “We sincerely thank everyone who contributed in any way. Our success is the community’s success,” added Big Brothers Big Sisters Development Director. Each year, Bowl for Kids’ Sake generates approximately 34% of the operating budget for Big Brothers Big Sisters which served 716 youth in 2011.

A total of 11 new companies participated in the event this year, raising $17,633. Volunteers (Bigs) and the youth they are matched with (Littles) raised $15,441. A recent program graduate when asked why she supports Big Brothers Big Sisters and Bowl for Kids’ Sake stated, “Because I was a Little and Big Brothers Big Sisters helped me out, I love it and its fun.” This shows the profound effect that Big Brothers Big Sisters has on the lives of youth in our community.

All money raised through Bowl For Kids’ Sake goes directly to supporting youth in our community.
