Scott and Dalton first connected through interests in sports and education. Scott encouraged Dalton to join the high school soccer team. He led conversations about careers interests and the importance of continuing education after high school. He even helped Dalton establish a savings account and begin investing for his education.

Dalton and his brother are being raised by their mom. His family lost their home in the flood. After several moves, they secured a FEMA trailer. The family is facing hardships due to the absence of one parent and the flood. As they decide this fall whether to move again or try to secure funding to buy the FEMA trailer, Dalton was quick to offer the money he saved from his summer job so the family can stay.
